Carlito Delfin, acting assistant regional director of BFAR Western Visayas, yesterday said the killing of juvenile sharks prevents them from reaching reproductive age and from multiplying. Dave Albao, executive director of the Philippine Reef and Rainforest Conservation Foundation Inc. (PRRCFI), on Tuesday raised concern over the sale of juvenile blacktip reef sharks in southern Negros Occidental, and called on local governments to regulate, if not ban, shark fishing. Only eight shark species and the manta ray are listed in the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species, which makes catching these animals illegal.en
