Mangroves: Life source of the coast

Did you know that out of the world’s more than 70 self-tolerant mangrove species, around 46 species exist in the Philippines? According to the Department of Environment Natural Resources (DENR) Ecosystem Research and Development Bureau, one study showed that a kilometer-wide mangrove region might help lessen the strength of a tsunami by 70 percent. The coastal community benefits from mangrove trees because they give shelter and protection.
