Shipping was on the move again late on Monday in Egypt’s Suez Canal after a giant container ship which had been blocking the busy waterway for almost a week was refloated, with more than 400 ships waiting to pass through. Nearly 113 vessels had transited the canal in both directions by 0600 GMT on Tuesday morning, in line with the canal’s previously announced plans, Egyptian state TV reported on Tuesday. Suez Canal Authority (SCA) chair Osama Rabie said 422 vessels were waiting in line. The Ever Given had become jammed diagonally across a southern section of the canal, the shortest shipping route between Europe and Asia, in high winds early on March 23.
