The Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) on Monday urged lawmakers to pass a legislation protecting the country’s wetlands, which play crucial roles in mitigating climate change, controlling floods and providing food and shelter. Environment Secretary Roy Cimatu said while there were already existing laws that contain provisions directly or indirectly promoting the protection of wetlands, there was still no single legislation that advances wetland conservation and its wise use.
