China’s military warned off Wednesday a US guided missile destroyer that allegedly trespassed into areas adjacent to a Chinese reef in the South China Sea without permission. Naval and aerial forces of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) Southern Theater Command also conducted whole-process tracking and monitoring of the USS Benfold that approached the Meiji reef, Air Force Senior Colonel Tian Junli, spokesperson of the PLA Southern Theater Command, said in a written statement. Tian pointed out that the US move has seriously violated China’s sovereignty and security and it is a latest iron proof of the US’s voyage hegemony and militarization of the South China Sea.
