Despite being considered as the province's fishing sanctuary at the Sibuyan sea, barangay Bogtongbato, a coastal barangay in this town 39 kilometers west of Kalibo, still continues to remain thriving on subsistence fishing during the past several decades. Out of the village's 331 households, 156 continue to depend on seasonal fishing at the open sea jobless during the southwest monsoon season and find hand to mouth subsistence when the seas are calm. Very low income is the common complaint of the villagers due to the fact that they are solely dependent on the municipal fishery which is seasonal and lack alternative livelihood during off-fishing season.en
