    Excerpt
In light of environmental issues besetting Boracay, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) created a team of experts that will study the reported degradation of the coral reef ecosystem in the island resort. The team from DENR Region 6 will assess marine ecology in nine legislated Marine Parks and identified recreational diving sites. Regional Director Jim Sampulna formed the team upon the instructions of Secretary Ramon Paje. Aside from assessing coral reef areas, associated reef fishes, seagrass and seaweeds, mangrove, and fishery resources, the team will also study the island resort's carrying capacity.
