    Excerpt
Environmentalists and student groups on Friday are seeking a congressional inquiry on claims that China has been exploiting resource-rich areas in different parts of the country for its illegal reclamation and construction activities in the Kalayaan Group of Islands in the West Philippine Sea. The Leyte-based Homonhon Environmental Rescuers Organization (Hero), KALikha UP Diliman and UP College of Arts and Letters Freshies, Shiftees and Transferees Council were one in pressing for a congressional inquiry over China’s unlawful aggression in the West Philippine Sea. Hero president Villardo Abueme said the unabated dredging, extraction of sand and filling materials are destroying the country’s natural resources from as far as Cagayan Valley to Leyte in the Visayas.
