Swimmer circumnavigates Olango in 12 hours
MetadataShow full item record
Ferdinand Magellan, the Portuguese explorer who sailed under the banner of Spanish Empire, failed to finish the first ever recorded circumnavigation in 1522 as he had been killed by the warriors of local chieftain Lapulapu on April 27, 1521, now commemorated as Battle of Mactan. Nearly 500 years after the historic skirmish, Cleevan Alegres succeeded in his own little circumnavigation—swimming around the Olango Island for 12 hours.
