A former Leyte barangay (village) chairman and seven other persons were slapped with a criminal complaint before the Leyte Prosecutor’s Office of the Department of Justice here after they were caught illegally fishing at the Leyte Gulf. Bernardo Arcena, acting police chief of Tanauan town, filed the complaint for violation of the Philippine Fisheries Code of 1998 against Juan Egonio, ex-village chief of Barangay Bislig, Tanauan, and his seven companions, identified as Santiago Tenegra Sr., Santiago Tenegra Jr., Jonray Tenegra, Jericho Palana, Elmer Catindo and June Ablites, all residents of Barangay Bislig.
