The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) announced the start of a ban on catching the high-value species called ludong or freshwater mullet, which is considered as the most expensive fish in the Philippines. BFAR Director Asia G. Perez said in a statement the 45day fishing ban that started on Oct. 1 coincides with the ludong’s spawning period. The agency issued BFAR Administrative Circular No. 247, which prohibits individuals, associations or corporations from catching the ludong, also known as “president’s fish,” until Nov. 15 to help replenish its population.en
