The Iloilo provincial government in coordination with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources(BFAR-6) has started the implementation of "market denial," a strategy to combat illegal fishing. Provincial Agriculturist Ildefonso Toledo said a composite team from BFAR and the province is conducting random examinations of illegally caught fish sold in the market. Toledo said they focused their strategy on Northern Iloilo where illegal fishing is widespread.
