    May kakayahan ang ilang corals na maka-recover mula sa bleaching kahit pa sa mahabang heatwaves hanggat hindi ito pakikialaman ng mga tao, pahayag ng mga siyentista nitong Martes, na nagpapataas sa pag-asa sa mga endangered underwater ecosystems na mahalaga sa marine life. Tinutukan ng mga researchers ang mga corals sa Kiritimati atoll sa Pacific Ocean sa pagdaan nito sa pinakamahabang tropical heatwave, sa inasahan nilang magdurusa nang matindi sa mass bleaching. Ngunit sa kabila ng pagkababad sa “hot water bath” sa loob ng sampung buwan dulot ng partikular na malakas na 2015/2016 El Nino, naka-survive ang mga corals.
