The Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) has declared a closed fishing season for the high-value Ludong for the provinces of Cagayan, Abra and the Santa River in Ilocos Sur, a senior official said on Wednesday. BFAR Director Asis Perez said the agency and the Philippine coast Guard have deployed eight multi-mission boats to patrol the protected area and violators faced stiff fines and maximum eight years imprisonment.
