A fisherman from Zambales was found alive after drifting at sea for five days as the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) carried out search and rescue operations off Bajo de Masinloc (Scarborough or Panatag Shoal), it was reported on Sunday, March 22. PCG spokesperson Commodore Noemi Cayabyab identified the fisherman as a 32-year-old resident of Barangay Wawanway, Subic, Zambales. He was reported missing on March 15 after his service boat “Bebelot,” operating under fishing boat “Gabriel Geruz 6,” failed to return.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Saturday, March 21, condemned the dangerous provocation by Chinese forces after flares were fired near one of its aircraft over Panganiban (Mischief) Reef, a militarized atoll in the West Philippine Sea (WPS). Rear Adm. Jay Tarriela said the incident happened during a maritime domain awareness (MDA) flight over the reef on Friday, March 20. “This shows the massive scale of the illegal reclamation by the Chinese government on Panganiban Reef, located well within our exclusive economic zone (EEZ),” he said.

A report from the CHO said the family collected seashells and cooked them for lunch on March 20.&#13;
Hours later, the 44-year-old mother and family members aged 25, 21, 20, and two minors aged six and 17 experienced food poisoning symptoms that persisted throughout the weekend.
