As part of a joint searching experiment, the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center Aquaculture Department (SEAFDEC/AQD) and the municipal government of Anini-y, Antique seeded more than 5,000 abalones (Haliotis asinia) juveniles into the Nogas Island Marine Sanctuary on July 24. Abalone is locally known as lapas or sobra-sobra in Hiligaynon. Seafdec/AQD divers and scientists continued to monitor the abalone for two more days after their stocking. Dr. Evelyn Grace de Jesus-Ayson, research division head, said Seafdec/AQD also plans to stock seahorses in the Sagay Marine Reserves in Negros and abalone at Malalison Island in Northern Antique.en
